Washington D.C. 40 hour Armed Special Police Officer Training: (HURRY AND REGISTER Today by calling 703-982-5854 or online at www.vmtacademy.com.

Student Package - 1 $475.00 (This package includes all certification fees for APS Baton, Handcuffing, (OC) Pepper Spray, DC SPO, Student Handbooks, Range Ammunition, Range Time, Handgun Rental, and any other class materials needed. Students will not be required to pay any additional fees for the basic 40 hour training).

Student Package - 2 $625.00 (This package includes all items listed in package one PLUS a Duty Belt, 38 Revolver Holster, Speed Loader holder, Pepper Spray Holder, Baton Holder, Handcuff Holder, and Belt keepers).

Prerequisite: Have reached the age of twenty-one (21) years, be a citizen of the United States, and be of good moral character, etc.

Requirements: Each student will need a Duty Belt, 38 Smith & Wesson Revolver Holster, Speed Loader holder, Pepper Spray Holder, Baton Holder, Handcuff Holder, and Belt keepers.

Description: Upon successful completion of training, students will be certified in ASP Baton, Handcuffing (TTH), Aerosol Weapons (Pepper Spray), and meet the requirements to become certified as a D.C. Armed Special Police Officer pursuant to Title 6A upon employment sponsorship.

FAQs: 
What is a Special Police Officer? 
The term "Special Police Officer," is any person who is commissioned which have been approved pursuant to this act, and who may be authorized to carry a weapon. They are privately commissioned police officers with full arrest powers within an area or premises which the officer has been employed to protect. The commission is conditional and is required to be renewed each year. D.C. Code, 4-114 (1981) 

What is the Authority of a Special Police officer? 
Special police officer shall have the same powers as a law enforcement officer to Arrest without a warrant for offenses committed within the premises to which his or her jurisdiction extends or outside the premises on a fresh pursuit for offenses committed on the premises. D.C. Code 23-582A 

Can I take this Training if I am not Currently Working for a Security or Proprietary Company? 
Yes, this is a basic training course, upon completion of VMT Academy special police officer training, we will provide students with recruitment information from the top security and proprietary companies in the DMV area so they may gain appointment under the provisions of D.C. Official Code §4-114 (1981). Please visit our web site for more information.

Do I have to be Employed by a Security or Proprietary Company to become a Commissioned Special Police Officer? 
Yes, after completing basic training you must gain employment by a licensed D.C. security or proprietary company. Applications for appointment under the provisions of D.C. Official Code §4-114 (1981), shall be made jointly in the names of the prospective special police officers and the names of the persons or corporations in connection with whose property of business the appointment is sought. 

Pursuant to Washington D. C. Metropolitan Police Department all special police officer applicants must bring a completed application with the original signature of an authorized company representative (meaning you must be hired by a security company) to the Security Officers Management Branch (SOMB) for initial screening.

Therefore you cannot just pay for a special police officer commission you must be an employee of a company for sponsorship. 

What Training is Required for Unarmed and Armed D.C. Special Police Officer commission? 
Individuals who wish to become an Unarmed or Armed Special Police Officer shall complete a 40 hour pre-assignment training pursuant to D.C. Official Code §6A 1107.2. And shall also satisfy all additional initial training standers for firearms and other equipment, as applicable. D.C. Official Code §6A 1107.4.

Washington D.C. Armed Special Police Officer 8 hours Re-certification Training:
Tuition: $150.00
Prerequisite: Current DC SPO Commission.
Requirements: Each student will need a Duty Belt, 38 Smith & Wesson Revolver Holster, Speed Loader holder, and Belt keepers. Description: This firearms recertification course meets the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department standards for Special Police training. The course tests the students based upon the MPD requirements for Special Police annual firearms requalification training.

Prerequisite: NONE
Requirements: Each student will need a Duty Belt, Baton Holder, and Belt keepers.
Description: This certification course involves lecture, demonstration, hands-on skill development and testing. Students will learn tactical baton fundamentals. Students will be required to pass a written examination and a practical proficiency test.

Description: This certification course involves lecture, demonstration, hands-on skill development and testing. Students will learn how to deploy Aerosol Weapons (OC Spray) in a safe and reliable manner. After successful completion of both practical and written exam, the user is certified in the training theory of Larry Smith Enterprise.

Description: This certification course involves lecture, demonstration, hands-on skill development and testing. Students will learn how to deploy handcuffs in a safe and reliable manner to secure an individual(s). After successful completion of both practical and written exam, the user is certified in the theory of Larry Smith Enterprise.
