Biohabitats is seeking an entry-level Water Resources Engineer skilled in wastewater treatment, process modeling and water reuse at the decentralized system scale size. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated and technically skilled, possess a technical aptitude with strong written and verbal skills, and be passionate about integrating sustainable water systems design, ecology and engineering. 

The Engineer hired for this position will support our multi-disciplinary team on a range of projects related to integrated water strategies for public, private, and institutional clients throughout the country. Projects will include water planning, water balance modeling, rainwater harvesting, wastewater treatment, and water reuse. Roles & Responsibilities 

Support a wide range of integrated water strategy projects including decentralized wastewater treatment, water supply, stormwater management, rain harvesting, and water reuse systems. 

Provide calculation and modeling support, data organization and assessment for water/wastewater processes.  

Provide support for permitting water systems, including preparation and organization of design reports, permit applications, and research/review of codes and standards.  

Prepare design and construction documents (drawings and specifications). 

Assist with field observation of installed work. 

Required Experience & Skills 

Knowledge of decentralized/smaller scale wastewater, water, rainwater, stormwater or greywater systems, related unit-processes and calculations.  

Ability to develop and advance models within robust spreadsheet-based and other modeling programs 

Experience assisting with design and construction documentation, including plans and specifications. 

Proficient with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). 

Ability to work both collaboratively in a team environment and independently. 

Strong written and oral communication skills. 

Helpful Experience & Skills 

Wastewater process engineering experience. Experience with Biowin. 

Experience with natural treatment systems such as constructed wetlands, sand filters, trickling filters, bioreactors, UV, and/or ozone components. 

Basic skills (or beyond) with AutoCAD and/or GIS. 

Water budget modeling. 

Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling programs (e.g., TR-55/TR-20, HEC-RAS, SWMM, HydroCAD, etc.).  

Cost estimating experience. 

Technical writing experience. 

Experience with system controls. 

Experience with high performance programs – LEED, LBC, & SITES  

Education 

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant engineering field (e.g., Environmental, Mechanical, Civil, etc.) or equivalent knowledge/experience.  

Years of Experience 

2-10 years’ experience

Professional Registration 

Engineer in Training (EIT), Professional Engineering (PE), or the ability to obtain these, is preferred.  

Salary Range 

$70,000 - $95,000 

Location 

Santa Fe, NM (preferred); Baltimore, MD; Charleston, SC; or Denver, CO.
