The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce serves as our region’s collective voice to drive solutions for our thriving community. We work alongside our 1,700 members, who represent over 170,000 professionals, to initiate, advocate and empower our region to advance a prosperous business environment.  From increased infrastructure investment, addressing the housing attainability crisis to serving as a catalyst for building a local talent pipeline and workforce, the Chamber is at the forefront of providing solutions to advance Greater Charleston.

JOB SUMMARY

We are now hiring a Director of Membership Engagement that reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Membership & Corporate Partnerships. The Director’s primary role is to identify and close prospective members, while cultivating relationships with new and existing members. Responsibilities include connecting with stakeholders on an ongoing basis via in-person meetings, phone calls and emails and working with members to maintain member engagement and increase overall member retention.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and follow up on membership leads for new member sales
  • Actively seek new members by cold calling, researching and performing other lead generation activities
  • Maintain knowledge of goals, objectives and services provided by the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce
  • Actively support and attend Chamber events
  • Practice customer service and have a daily positive attitude
  • Manage and complete multiple projects on time

QUALIFICATIONS

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

  • Must maintain the ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license, and/or access to reliable transportation, and automobile insurance acceptable to the Chambers liability insurance provider.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field
  • Minimum of five years business development experience, preferably in a membership role
  • Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed monthly sales goals with a high closing percentage
  • Demonstrated ability in public speaking, written and oral communication and interpersonal relations
  • Business and leadership savvy with high level of energy
  • Knowledge and ability to work in a CRM database and Microsoft Office
  • Self-motivated, team oriented and organized
  • Ability to embrace change and respond to daily situations that arise

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or budget reports. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, managers, and employees using tact, courtesy and cooperativeness.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 
  • Ability to deal with a few abstract and concrete variables, exercising judgment, resourcefulness, ingenuity, and initiative.
  • Ability to exercise discretion while managing confidential information. 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Computer Knowledge to include: Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Office, PowerPoint, Excel), Customer Relationship Management software/database knowledge

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee uses hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception. WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in adverse weather conditions. Employee may be exposed to dust, odors, extreme cold or heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
