Project Coordinator/Junior Estimator
Dawson Construction is looking for a Project Coordinator/Junior Estimator who has a team-oriented mindset, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
As a Project Coordinator/Junior Estimator at Dawson Construction, you will play a key role in supporting project operations and ensuring smooth execution from start to finish. This is a seasonal, full-time position, where you will report directly to the Project Manager & Estimator and collaborate with project teams to help deliver high-quality construction projects. Your base location will be Kamloops, B.C., and will require travel throughout our province.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Project Coordinating
- Coordinate and support the successful execution of construction projects from tender through project closeout
- Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, field crews, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and clients to support efficient project delivery
- Monitor project progress, schedules, costs, quantities, and key milestones while assisting with issue resolution and risk management
- Manage project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change tracking, daily reports, and turnover packages
- Support contract administration, project closeout, and overall communication between operations, quality control, and project stakeholders
Estimating, Scheduling & Cost Control
- Prepare quantity take-offs, cost estimates, tender pricing, change order pricing, and bid support documentation for small to medium sized construction projects
- Solicit and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations to support accurate and competitive project pricing
- Assist with project scheduling, resource planning, forecasting, and coordination of upcoming work activities
- Monitor schedule and cost performance while supporting planning strategies to maintain productivity and project timelines
- Maintain estimating databases, production tracking, unit pricing records, and historical cost information
Quality Coordination & Regulatory Compliance
- Assist with the development and implementation of project-specific Quality Control Plans (QCPs) and quality documentation systems
- Coordinate quality testing, review field and laboratory test results, and maintain material traceability and turnover documentation in accordance with project specifications and regulatory requirements
- Support audits, inspections, NCR tracking, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Lead and oversee the company’s nuclear density gauge program, ensuring compliance with CNSC regulations, licensing requirements, transportation standards, and documentation protocols
- Engineering Degree, Civil Engineering Technology diploma, or a related field is an asset.
- Minimum 1-3 years in construction, with experience in project coordination, estimating, or field engineering.
- An understanding of construction methodologies, scheduling, and cost control. Experience with estimating software (preferably HCSS) is an asset.
- Familiarity with paving, highways, and municipal works.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate with diverse teams.
- Ability to anticipate project challenges and assist in developing proactive solutions.
- Strong organizational skills with an emphasis on accuracy and efficiency.
