Job Summary:

Responsible for managing the activities of the overall general accounting function. Oversee, implement, and maintain accounting systems, procedures, and policies to ensure the accurate compilation, analysis, and reporting of accounting data. This position fills a key role in the company and contributes to the strategic direction of the organization by partnering closely with the President and the leadership team. 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned)

General Accounting

  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare and post entries to the general ledger and to document business transactions.
  • Analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital. Prepare balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize current and projected company financial position.
  • Coordinate reconciliation of company accounts.
  • Manage company cash flow requirements.
  • Recommend improvements, adaptations, or revisions in the accounting system and procedures.
  • Establish, modify, document, and coordinate implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures.

Office Support

  • Assist with vendor invoices to verify product, pricing, quantities, etc. and process accounts payable vouchers for all vendor payments.
  • Supervise the accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions.
  • Lead and coordinate employees performing accounting activities.

Payroll

  • Prepare and submit weekly payroll.
  • Generate payroll reports for internal use and for the 401(k) administrator.
  • Maintain employee information in the payroll system.
  • Assist in compiling employee total compensation reports.

Manufacturing Support

  • Analyze actual manufacturing costs and provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability.
  • Assist with product pricing strategies and unit specific model/part pricing.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory transfers and valuations to and from the European warehouse.

Tax & Audit

  • Work with the accounting firm to provide necessary information for the annual compilation, including combined financial statements and schedules.
  • Work with the accounting firm to provide necessary information for state and federal income tax filings and other applicable tax payments.
  • Monitor and maintain European VAT (Value Added Tax) submissions, including invoices and ICP declarations.
  • Prepare, maintain, and submit annual 1099s.
  • Audit W-9 forms and sales tax exemptions.

Cost Reduction

  • Audit contracts, orders, and vouchers and prepare reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement.
  • Analyze costs related to gas/electric consumption and make recommendations for improvements. Assist with decisions regarding utility contracts.
  • Assist with decisions regarding insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities. Audit additional insurance coverages.
  • Analyze costs related to gas/electric consumption and make recommendations for improvements. Assist with decisions regarding utility contracts.

Other

  • Assist with lease agreements and other binding financial agreements.
  • Assist with banking relationships and fulfill requirements of established loan covenant agreements. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

The Accounting Manager supervises employees performing accounting functions.  Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing; making hiring recommendations; instructing and training in work methods; assigning work; planning and scheduling work; checking and approving work; and conducting performance evaluations.

 Minimum Qualification Standards:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or other business related field.
  • 5 years progressive experience in accounting.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and work experience will be considered.

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Computer proficiency including word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, and generating reports using software applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and details simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical ability to gather and summarize data, find solutions to various administrative problems, and prioritize work.
  • Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to interact with customers, vendors and co-workers in a professional and helpful manner in person or via phone or written correspondence.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-term goals.
  • Leadership proficiency. 

 Equipment, Machines and Software Used:

 This position requires the regular use of a computer/iPad, printer, photocopier, telephone, scanner, paper shredder, calculator/adding machine, and postage meter.

 Computer Software: Microsoft Office to include Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and PICK.

 Mental and Visual Demand:

Close mental and visual attention to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform moderate to heavy administrative work using a computer, read and comprehend manuals and procedures.   Exercises independent judgment and discretion in performing administrative duties, applying established guidelines and experience to make decisions that support broader organizational objectives.

Physical Demand:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit at a desk, talk, and hear.  The employee is required to stand, walk, perform repetitive hand motions while typing, finger, grasp, handle, feel, push, pull, and reach.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

There is no exposure to adverse environmental conditions.  Work is performed in a typical office environment with occasional outside travel and exposure to the manufacturing floor.
