POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Branch Executive Director and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Senior Director of Health & Wellness is a motivated and visionary leader, responsible for overseeing wellness operations across multiple locations. This includes managing wellness floors, personal training, group exercise programs, hospital partnerships, and Evidence-Based Health Interventions (EBHIs). The Senior Director is responsible for delivering high-quality health and wellness programs that enhance community well-being, drive member engagement, and align with the YMCA’s mission and strategic goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Strategic Leadership & Program Management
· Develop and execute a comprehensive wellness strategy that integrates fitness, group exercise, personal training, and EBHI programs.
· Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all wellness-related programs to ensure effectiveness, engagement, and growth.
· Strengthen and expand hospital and healthcare partnerships to support community health initiatives.
· Ensure compliance with YMCA standards, state and local regulations, and safety protocols.
· Utilize data analysis, participation tracking, and outcome measures to assess program impact and make data-driven decisions.
Operational & Financial Oversight
· Manage departmental budgets, including revenue generation, expense control, and financial sustainability.
· Oversee scheduling, equipment maintenance, and operational procedures for wellness facilities.
· Ensure the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of wellness areas, including fitness floors and group exercise studios.
· Support fundraising and grant efforts related to health and wellness programs.
Staff Leadership & Development
· Recruit, hire, train, and develop a high-performing team of wellness professionals, including personal trainers, group exercise instructors, and EBHI facilitators.
· Provide leadership, mentorship, and ongoing professional development to ensure staff excellence.
· Conduct regular performance evaluations, coaching, and motivation strategies to maintain staff engagement and retention.
· Maintain accurate records of staff certifications, training, and continuing education.
Member Engagement & Community Partnerships
· Drive member engagement and retention through innovative wellness programming and a welcoming environment.
· Build and maintain strong relationships with local healthcare providers, businesses, and community organizations.
· Oversee member experience strategies to foster connections and long-term participation in wellness programs.
· Develop and implement marketing and outreach initiatives to promote wellness programs and increase community impact.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's degree in exercise science, kinesiology, health promotion, public health, sports medicine, or equivalent along with ACSM Exercise Physiology certification or equivalent.
2. Preferred certifications: personal training, nutrition, wellness coaching, group exercise instructor, etc.
3. Strong knowledge of current trends in health and wellness and a minimum of four years of relevant experience in program management, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
4. Exceptional relationship management experience and capacity to develop effective working relationships with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual and generational backgrounds.
5. Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
6. Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify and leverage relevant data to use in planning and decision-making.
7. Understanding of the nature and purpose of YMCA and the respective roles of volunteerism and staff.
8. Ability to establish, collaborate and maintain relationships with staff, YMCA members, volunteers and community stakeholders.
9. Consistently self-driven and goal-oriented with the ability to set effective team and individual goals and take ownership for results.
10. Within 30 days of hire, completion of training in Child Abuse Prevention, CPR, 1st Aid, AED, and BBP.
