003L - Seasonal Natural Resources - Deer Mgmt. PP

Job Purpose

This position will assist with on-going White-tailed Deer Management Program within the forest preserves of DuPage County.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Deer Management

·         Assist with on-going white-tailed deer management project in DuPage County

·         Field dressing lethally removed deer

·         Data Collection

·         Driving pick-up trucks with and without trailers and/or ATVs

·         Routine maintenance to vehicles

·         Work related to Wildlife Ecology and Restoration Ecology

·         Additional duties as assigned

Education and Experience Required

Additional Information: Must be 18 years of age or older by the first day of employment.


Hours:  Late October – Mid February, may vary; typically at least 40 hours per week, but weather may reduce hours certain weeks (mainly nights 6 pm to approximately 6 am, Mon-Thur., some weekends on occasion). 

Preferred Experience:  Experience in Ecology and/or Restoration, Conservation, or Wildlife Management, or other ecological area of the appropriate discipline.  Preferred candidate will have previous experience with wildlife and experience with natural resources management or related field.

Special training or other license, certification, etc.:  Must have an undergraduate degree or be in the process of attaining an undergraduate degree in Ecology, Natural Resources Management, Biology, Botany, Fisheries Management, Invertebrate Ecology, Wildlife Management, or related field. Possess a valid driver’s license

Skills In:  Work independently and fulfill tasks with attention to detail. Strong field skills. Ability to participate as a team member. Follow detailed instructions.  Be able to relate to the public in a professional manner. Physical Demands: ability to lift/move a minimum of 50 lbs. (i.e. dragging/lifting harvested deer, five gallon buckets of corn, etc.) Work Environment: outdoors at night during the winter; expect cold, low wind chills, rain, snow, slippery conditions and low light conditions.
