Camp Cooks Needed! Fun environment, flexible shifts!
We are looking to hire cooks/chefs to prepare meals for campers and staff, maintain the kitchen and dining hall and work collaboratively with an upbeat, dynamic team.
Our cooks are responsible for providing exceptional service and nutritional food to our campers, students, teachers and staff.
Flexible availability: Immediate start available (spring season through June 5) Summer camp season (June 9th, 2025 - August 16th, 2025) Fall season (September 5th through November 22)
JOB SUMMARY:
As a camp, our kitchen staff are very much part of the camp community, which is an energetic, friendly, collaborative workplace. We are looking for additional cooks for our upcoming busy seasons.
- Our team of camp cooks prepare basic meals in our camp kitchen for our guests in the following programs:
- Outdoor School - Family style breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the week. Meals for 50 - 130 students.
- Weekends - Family style for youth groups breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the week. Meals for 50 - 100
- Summer camp - Family style meals for 120 campers and staff overnight camp (breakfast lunch dinner) and 150 campers and staff day camp (breakfast lunch snack), assist with food pack outs for trips.
The camp menus are already set, our camp cooks prepare the meals, set up for upcoming meals, and record inventory.
Our cooks record meal data for the Summer Food Service Program through the USDA, which helps us provide summer meals to qualifying children during the summer months.
Our Food Service Team includes our Food Service Coordinator, who schedules staff and coordinates with our Food Service Consultant, 7-8 seasonal kitchen assistants, and 4-5 cooks
Shifts are flexible. Spring, summer and fall seasons are all available however, candidates may choose only to work one, two, or all three seasons.
EXPERIENCE and CERTIFICATIONS:
Certification in Food Service Preparation, Nutrition or similar preferred (or ability to obtain certification upon hire)
At least 1 year of experience in food service experience.
Experience with the operation of standard food service equipment.
Experience in large order menu planning is preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ability to maintain inventory
Ability to carry supplies and load supply closets.
Ability to assist in the training of young staff in safety regulations and emergency procedures.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including split-shifts and weekends if required
Physical ability to participate in work long hours, especially during the operation of the summer
Preparation and handling of all food and food service equipment in a sanitary manner in accordance with Montgomery County Board of Health regulations.
Preparation of meals from menus approved by the Food Service Coordinator and/or Food Service Consultant.
Assist Food Service Coordinator with the delegation and supervision of Food Service Assistants for all food preparation
Be responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the kitchen and equipment.
Prepare, store and dispose of all food in a sanitary manner in accordance with Montgomery County Board of Health regulations.
Prepare, serve all food using correct portion control and assist with record keeping for all SFSP and USDA requirements
Properly store, clean and maintain all food services equipment and work area after each use, in a sanitary manner in accordance with Montgomery County Board of Health regulations.
To efficiently and effectively operate industrial kitchen equipment
