Communications and Grant Writer

I.          JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for identifying opportunities for funding, developing and writing grant proposals for foundation and government grants. This position reviews and submits grant requests and maintains a tracking system for submissions, reports, and any deadlines. This position also supports the agency’s communication efforts by creating company newsletters, e-mail blasts and maintaining social media accounts.

II.         DUTIES 

Research potential funders. Establish and maintain relationships with funders. 

Prepare and submit grant proposals while communicating the company’s missions and programs. 

Maintain a tracking system to ensure timely submission of proposals, grants, reports, and other deadlines. 

Assist with planning and facilitating various events as needed such as the Gala, ADA events, Halloween event, and fundraising campaigns. 

Provide timely advice and information on funding opportunities, requirements and procedures; collaborate in defining and implementing project funding strategies. 

Create and produce print materials such as newsletters, annual reports and business cards. 

Assist with bi-monthly Development committee meetings. 

Assist with marketing operations as assigned by the Development Manager. 

Secure donations through a variety of sources based on current campaigns. 

Other duties as assigned. 

III.        SUPERVISION

This position does not have any regular responsibility for the work of others. 

IV.       TECHNOLOGY/ EQUIPMENT/ TOOLS 

Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint)     Basic

Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator                                          Basic

VI.       WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment with moderate to light noise. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

VII.     Qualifications

Education Requirements 

Bachelor’s Degree in Writing, Communications, Marketing or related field 

Experience Requirements

A minimum of 1 year experience in grant writing or 2 year’s relevant experience in a writing capacity.

A minimum of 1 year experience in a communications or marketing related role. 

Skills and Competencies Requirements 

Ability to manage multiple project simultaneously

Strong written and verbal skills a must

Excellent editing skills

Ability to work independently and in a group setting

Comfortable with public speaking

Customer service oriented

Availability to work on occasional evenings or during weekends for special events
