Matix Lumber Inc. is a family, locally owned and operated professional building supply centre that provides for all your building needs. We are a building supply and project centre providing contractors and do-it-yourself builders with the tools, materials, design, and construction services to support projects of any scale.
Matix Lumber services all sectors of the building industry and offers a comprehensive selection of quality lumber and building materials manufactured by North America’s leading producers. We provide contractors, avid builders, DIYers, and community leaders the tools, construction service, and design expertise to support residential and commercial projects – from start to finish.
We believe in building collaborative, mutually beneficial relationships with everyone we work with and have been able to achieve this through our industry experience, sound project execution, and visionary thinking.
Matix Lumber Inc. is looking for a full-time Project Coordinator to join our growing team. We are looking for a motivated professional with on-site construction experience and strong knowledge of building materials, who can provide high-level customer service to our clients.
The Northern Operations Manager is a construction professional who will lead our Northern Division, overseeing both the pre-construction and production sides of the construction department, with a focus on financial performance, operational oversight, and accountability. Reporting to the ownership team, this important role is responsible for managing the Northern department.
This role is not primarily responsible for running projects on a day-to-day basis. Instead, the Northern Operations Manager ensures projects are properly planned, tracked, and controlled — supporting Project Managers and other staff, holding them accountable, and staying ahead of risks, variances, and execution gaps. When required, must be capable of stepping in to directly lead and manage projects, including both residential and commercial construction assignments, to ensure successful delivery and continuity of operations. The role also oversees the pre-construction process to ensure all projects are clearly defined, properly estimated, and set up for successful execution. This includes reviewing budgets and estimates, validating scope, and confirming that logistics, risks, and site conditions have been fully considered. Ensures alignment between estimating, procurement, and project delivery, and that each project is handed off with a clear budget, schedule, and execution plan. The focus is on maintaining clear visibility into project performance, ensuring strong control over budgets and execution, and consistently delivering planned financial and operational results.
Consider applying for this incredible opportunity!
Key Responsibilities, but not limited to:
- Lead day-to-day northern operations across all areas
- Provide structure, direction, and accountability across the team
- Support and mentor Project Managers without taking over their role
- Oversee all active projects at a high level — not day-to-day execution
- Ensure Project Managers are organized, proactive, and in control of their jobs
- Hold PMs accountable to schedules, budgets, and deliverables
- Intervene when projects are off track or at risk
- Own the financial performance of all northern projects
- Work closely with the Project Accountant to track budgets, costs, and forecasts
- Monitor job-level performance, identify variances early, and drive corrective action
- Ensure accurate reporting and clear visibility on project status and profitability
- Ensure estimates are complete, buildable, and aligned with execution
- Oversee project start-up to confirm scope, budgets, and logistics are clear
- Maintain alignment between estimating, procurement, and field execution
- Support the sales team during early-stage planning and proposals
- Maintain strong relationships with clients and northern communities
- Ensure projects are set up properly from the outset
- Travel to site may be required to (not limited to) assess conditions, project resource allocations, project status, etc.
- Other duties as required
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years of progressive experience in construction project management, operations management, or a leadership role within the residential or commercial construction industry.
- Strong understanding of construction operations, project execution, resource planning, budgeting, and workforce management.
- Proven ability to develop and manage operational budgets, forecasts, productivity targets, and cost controls.
- Experience monitoring project financial performance, identifying risks, and implementing corrective actions.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing Site supervisors, project managers, field staff, and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven track record of driving operational performance, safety compliance, workforce planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Procore or similar project management software and Microsoft Office.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license
- Willingness to travel to project sites and branch locations as required.
Experience working in remote, northern, or multi-location operations environments is considered a strong asset.
