FUNgineering is a new startup company in the Bryan / College Station area. The purpose of the company is to introduce and promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) activities to elementary, intermediate, and middle school age children (age 6-14). STEM activities will include LEGO® Education learning systems, LEGO® Mindstorm Robotics construction and programming, and physics based computer gaming.

The company is located in the Woodstone Shopping Center, at 913-H Harvey Road, College Station, TX 77840. Hours of operation vary by activity, and typically are centered around daily classes ranging from 11:00am through 6:30pm on weekdays, and 10:00am through 5:00pm on weekends. Part-time college / university student employees are required to work a minimum of 12 hours per week, with a maximum of 28 hours per week.

Ideal candidates will possess a good working relationship with young children and have a strong desire to teach and pass on knowledge in STEM subjects. The company has multiple positions available with a start date of early March, 2015.

Job Summary

  • Instructs children in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) activities.
  • Leads children in STEM activities designed to promote social and intellectual growth.
  • Designs STEM activities to stimulate interest, promote enthusiasm, and encourage creativity.
  • Facilitates group interactions and develops children’s interpersonal skills.

 

General Accountabilities

  • Plans activities and projects appropriate to the level of development of each child or group of children.
  • Sets up materials for individual or group use.
  • Prepares instruction rooms for group activities.
  • Instructs children according to approved instructional materials at a level and rate appropriate for each child.
  • Prepares students for technical advancement by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities in STEM.
  • Facilitates the formation of working groups of children with a good understanding of group dynamics.
  • Monitors the progress of each child ensuring that the mastery of any given activity or project is being made.
  • Maintains an orderly and suitable learning environment.
  • Meets with Director to discuss progress of each child and to provide counsel or advice as appropriate.
  • Encourages critical thinking through the use of stimulating questions, suggestions, and ideas.
  • Participates in staff development activities, parent education and parent involvement situations.
  • Enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among children.
  • Participates in professional training as needed and required.
  • Performs other responsibilities as needed.

 

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: A minimum of two years of study in science, engineering, or computer visualization/programming courses at an accredited two-year college or four-year university.
  • Minimum Experience: None required for this entry level position.
  • Minimum Fields-of-Expertise: Successfully completed two years of course work in a scientific, engineering, or computer science discipline leading to an Associate or Bachelor’s Degree.
