High volume law firm located in Wheeling, IL (near Northbrook) is in need of 3 full-time Legal Assistants. Our firm is licensed and practices in 3 states: Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. These positions are for 2 departments within our firm. A description of the departments and available positions are below.
These open positions are ideal for candidates looking for an entry level position in the legal field or have obtained or are working towards a degree or certification in the political science, paralegal, or criminal justice fields of study.
Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel preferred. Willing to train the right candidate.

LEGAL DEPARTMENT
Our Legal Assistants act as support staff for our in-house attorneys. Due to the volume of accounts we receive from our clients, the Legal Department is broken down in to several divisions: Lawsuit Preparation, Court Docket Management, Court Call Preparation, Court Results Management, and Clerical.
Position #1: Court Docket Legal Assistant
JOB SUMMARY:
Performs various legal and clerical duties in support of the Attorneys and Legal Department functions.
This position requires a substantial knowledge of all court and office procedures, rules and authority, litigation process and transacts the general business of the attorney court calendar and Legal Department subject to general supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist Court Date Legal Assistant 1 with all duties and responsibilities required to set court dates for the assigned thirteen in-house counsel counties in Illinois.
Data entry of future court dates in the case management system.
Maintains that the filing fees are current for the assigned counties and that the fees bill correctly in the case management system.
Prepare daily, weekly and monthly court calendars for in-house counsel and ensure that all legal documents are filed with the correct counties.
Filing of all new cases, alias summons, wage garnishments, bank garnishments, motions and citations for the following thirteen in-house counsel counties in Illinois:
Cook Kankakee
Boone Kendall
Dekalb Lake
DuPage McHenry
Grundy Will
Iroquois Winnebago
Kane
Responsible for electronic filing of all DuPage County cases.
Represent Legal Department in a professional capacity. Requires effective interaction with the circuit clerks and judge’s clerks, both on the telephone and in writing.
POST JUDGEMENT DEPARTMENT
Our Post Judgment Department manages the files that have been moved to a "Judgment" status with the courts. Once a Judgment Order has been entered, the Post Judgment Department is responsible for the review of the files for employer and bank information and preparing wage and bank garnishments to be filed with the courts. The Post Judgment Department currently only works with our Illinois files and is broken down in to several divisions: Wage and Bank Garnishment Preparation, Judgment Validation, Employer Verification, and Garnishment Funds Recovery.
Position #2: Wage and Garnishments Legal Assistant
JOB SUMMARY:
Wage and Bank Garnishment Legal Assistant: this position is responsible for the preparation and printing of wage and bank garnishments for judgment files. Daily tasks include reviewing files in the electronic filing database for employer and bank information, preparation of wage and bank garnishments (includes financial calculations), printing of the wage and bank garnishments, and forwarding the garnishment paperwork to in-house attorneys for review and signature.
Position #3: Court Results Legal Assistant
JOB SUMMARY:
Performs various legal and clerical duties in support of the in-house Attorneys, Cook and Collar County court calls, and basic Legal Department functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- o Data entry of all court date results returned to our office from in-house Attorneys.
- All files listed on the court calls must have a court result notation and diary code action (if necessary) placed on the file in the collections database within 48 hours of receiving the results.
- Any additional correspondence or special filings from the Defendant or his/her attorney must be followed up with by data entry into the network database, forwarded to an in-house attorney for further direction and scanned into the network database for future use.
- Represent Legal Department in a professional capacity. Requires effective interaction with the circuit clerks, process servers and Corresponding Attorney offices, both on the telephone and in writing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Associates degree or certificate in Paralegal Studies, Political Science, Criminal Justice, or Business Administration or some college coursework completed.
One or more years of professional related experience.
Or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
