Legal Summer Student
The Alberta New Home Warranty Program Group of Companies (ANHWP Group), is Alberta’s most experienced and most trusted new home warranty provider and educator for homebuilders. This position resides with The Alberta New Home Warranty Program (ANHWP) and works alongside The New Home Warranty Insurance (Canada) Corporation (NHWICC) and the Professional Home Builders Institute of Alberta (PHBI) and Dweller Home Services.
Accountable for:
The Legal Summer Student will be responsible for providing support to the Legal department.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Legal Assistant are:
• Assist in research, either legislative interpretation for compliance matters, or other issues as they arise.
• Prepare or review information for accuracy of contents for the Claims Assessment department on homeowner payouts v. repairs.
• Compile producible documents for Affidavit of Records or Responses to Undertakings after questioning and cross-examinations in our litigation files.
• Assist in the Claims recovery process which includes drafting demand letters to builders.
• Assist in researching records, seeking information in order to formulate concise responses
Qualifications and skills:
· Must be between the ages of 16 and 30 as this position is partially funded by the Canada Summer Student grant program
· Currently enrolled in a post-secondary education, in business administration or related area and returning to a post-secondary institution following your work term. Candidates must be at least in the 2nd year of their Program
- Available and legally authorized to work in Canada for a 14-week full time work-term
- Previous work experience with administrative duties and supporting teams would be an asset
- The ability to collaborate with teams, strong communication and positive attitude all desired skills for this position
- Previous work experience in an administrative capacity, office setting and/or Legal would be considered an asset
- You have the ability to manage confidential information, are discrete and ethical
- You are a critical thinker, solutions orientated and have a high attention to detail
Knowledge:
- A background in Law
