JOB SUMMARY

A Pacific Ocean Pediatrics (POP) nurse assists physicians, nurses, and other medical staff by performing administrative and clinical duties, such as preparing treatment rooms for patient exams, recording patient medical history, administering injections, and cleaning and sterilizing medical equipment. You will spend a lot of time with patients, and we desire P.O.P. nurses to be upbeat and gracious to anyone who walks in the door!

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations.

  • Interviews patients to obtain their medical history.

  • Records patient medical history, vital statistics, and test results in patient medical files.

  • Performs routine screening tests, such as height and weight measurements and blood pressure checks.

  • Administers injections, immunizations, removes sutures, and changes dressings.

  • Cleans treatment rooms following patient examinations.

  • Cleans and sterilizes medical equipment and instruments.

  • Properly disposes of contaminated supplies.

  • Assists physicians during examination by handing over instruments and materials.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

SKILLS

  • Effective communication with patients, doctors, and support staff. Children need dozens of shots in their first years of life, and parents have lots of questions! As a P.O.P nurse, you’ll need to communicate details about shots and reassure parents and children during any unpleasantness.

  • Currently we maintain paper charts. Detailed and organized records are a must.

  • Attention to detail. Medicine is all about the details! Even the smallest discrepancy is vital.

  • In depth knowledge of medicine, anatomy, physiology and vaccines.

  • Flexibility - babies and kiddos are unpredictable! We desire a nurse who can adapt to whatever situation he/she walks into.

  • Calm under pressure. Administering shots is a huge part of the job, and P.O.P. seeks a nurse who can work diligently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Comfortable with computers - GoogleApps, OfficeAlly, Microsoft Suite, and general internet research.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: 2-5 years in clinical setting. Pediatric experience a plus.

  • Certifications and Licenses: Certification as a medical assistant (CMA) or licensed vocational nurse (LVN).
