Job Summary: Under general supervision, assists the consumer in learning to become independent, help integrates them into the community to be a productive member of society, and generally putting the individual consumer needs first. Individual is responsible for all meal related activities and duties.  

Job Duties:

  • As a representative of CDR, be committed in all that you do to support, perpetuate, and model the CDR Mission. 

  • Implements and designs Day Hab goals for each individual participating consumer.

  • Attendant Care: Assists with bathroom needs, changing, lifting, meals and cleaning as appropriate.

  • Ensures the general overall welfare of the consumer participating in the Day Hab program; the safety of the consumer is top priority.

  • Responsible for the entire planning, shopping, menu, cooking and clean up for all $1 Dinners three (3) times a week.

  • Plans the menu, purchases the food and clean up for (3) Recreation Center parties a year.

  • Opening and closing of the Recreation Center and preparation of it for the day.

  • Plans the lunch and dinner menu for each week; inventory of available food in pantry and purchasing of any necessary kitchen/food items.

  • Records and files all daily case notes and log sheets.

  • All planning, purchasing of food and supplies, cooking and cleaning for the annual sleep-away camp, Camp Haccamo, each summer, all day trips, and Advocacy trips for all participating consumers, aides, and staff.

  • Planning and implementing of healthy and nutritious meals for consumers at the Recreation Center.

  • Any additional tasks as assigned by the Manager of Recreation and Day Services. 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum High School graduation or Associate’s Degree (preferred) in Human Services, Social Work, Recreation or related field and/or
  • One (1) to five (5) years of direct care of persons with disabilities.
  • Professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Proof of CPR, First Aid, and TBI trainings.
  • Medical experience with First Aid, CPR, and the Heimlich maneuver is required as the safety of the consumer is the main responsibility.
  • Communication, especially the ability to listen and interpretation, is key.
  • Multitasking, organization, and being computer literate are essential functions of the Recreation Center.
  • Patience, personable, and compassion are needed to deal with the diverse and changing needs of each individual consumer participating in the Day Hab program.
  • Ability to think on your feet and problem solving skills are critical when dealing with consumers with different disabilities.
  • Must have the skills to be able to cook for small and large amounts of people.
  • Estimating the headcount of those attending activities which food is serviced to prevent wasting of food is imperative to accommodate the budget of the Recreation Center.
  • ASL and MSL extremely helpful, but not required. 

Essential Functions/Physical Requirements

The duties are representative of the essential functions of the position. The physical requirements for this position are the ability to stand for most the day, actively participating with consumers in activities and events during the day and trips, and the ability to bend, lift, and push persons and heavy equipment such as wheelchairs, glucose machines and any adaptable equipment used by the consumer. Operation flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs. A NYS Drivers License is required and reliable transportation is mandatory as local and non-local, day and night, travel is required of the position.
