Position:This is a part-time position with full-time potential depending on trial period and availability.  All shifts are 12 hours.  Hinds’ Feet Farm’s Residential Caregiver acts as an agent of Hinds’ Feet Farm and will provide direct care for the residents of Puddin’s Place, a six-bed residential group home for adults with brain injuries who need moderate to maximum assistance with their daily living activities. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must understand and accept that the needs of the residents define the parameters of all staff duties; the Residential Director will outline any changes in staff duties as the appropriate for the needs of the residents
  • Cooperate with and work in tandem with the Day Program Directors/Coordinators to facilitate resident engagement in the Day Program as a means to improve the quality of lives of the residents through the program’s fluidity process for community integration
  • Implement resident’s Person Centered Plan (PCP); assess the status of clients and address all behaviors and incidents in the manner outlined in each resident’s PCP
  • Complete all required documentation on a daily basis before the end of the shift including but not limited to: personal care logs, staff logs, service activity logs, incident reports, medication administration record (MAR), chore charts, etc.
  • Supervise and attend to residents at all times; residents must never be left alone (in the home or in a vehicle); staff must remain awake and alert at all times
  • Provide support to residents in all aspects of life including to not limited to basic self-care and socialization, personal hygiene and grooming, health support, personal assistance, all ADL’s, bathing, toileting, feeding, cooking, laundry, cleaning, transfers, handling of bodily fluids (using universal safety precautions), recreational/vocational/educational activities, nutrition, emotional support, hobbies, etc.
  • Perform and/or assist residents with regular housekeeping duties/chores including but not limited to cleaning bathrooms, washing dishes, vacuuming, meal preparation, grocery shopping, misc. errands, etc.
  • Transport residents to doctor’s visits, etc. as needed
  • Must know all medications and protocols for medication administration
  • Always consult with the Residential Director or Residential Coordinator in the event of questions regarding a member’s plan or the duties to be completed during a shift and the procedure to be followed in completing them
  • Follow the rules set forth in 10A NCAC 27 Subchapters C, D, E, F, and G (sections .0100-.0813; .5400; .5600) and 10A NCAC 26B Confidentiality Rules are followed without exception (www.ncdhhs.gov/mhddsas/statspublications/manuals/index.htm)
  • Abide by the rules set forth in the NC DHHS Records Management and Documentation Manual (www.ncdhhs.gov/mhddsas/statspublications/manuals/index.htm) and Hinds’ Feet Farm’s Policy and Procedure Manual are followed without exception
  • Meet with and participate as required in all Hinds’ Feet Farm monthly staff meetings
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications:

  • At minimal, must be a para-professional with at least 2 years’ experience of direct care with mental health  and/or developmental disability population
  • Valid driver’s license with car insurance and clean driving record
  • Must complete CPR and First Aid certification, NCI Part A, Core, and Core +     certification, all employee training within 30 days of employment; Maintain all other required trainings in a timely manner including but not limited to medication administration and cultural competency
  • A range of moderate to intense physical exertion is required to assist clients with personal care, lifts, transfers, cooking, and cleaning; regular standing, walking,  squatting is required
  • Must demonstrate competence by exhibiting core skills including: technical knowledge, cultural awareness, analytical skills, decision-making, interpersonal skills, communication skills, and clinical skills
  • Knowledge of basic human physical/psychological needs and simple health and safety precautions
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, drive a 12 passenger van, learn basic operation and maintenance
