Summer Student – Mental Health Services
Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Community Services has an exciting summer opportunity for students in the field of Mental Health Services. If you are a student between the ages of 15 and 30, who is preparing to return to school in September, and would like to gain experience working with a progressive community-based organization, this opportunity may be for you!
You
are a team player with great interpersonal skills and a desire to learn. You
are patient, kind and proactive, adept at solving problems. You have excellent
graphic design skills, excellent writing skills and a strong desire to serve
your community and make a difference in people’s lives. You are helpful and
tech savvy. You are able to work with people from all walks of life with
kindness and respect.
Involved in the day-to-day planning, implementation and evaluation of assigned
Mental Health programs. The Summer Student will work to encourage and support
member involvement in programs and services offered at The Club.
This position is funded through the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program. To be eligible, applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred and be legally entitled to work in Canada with a valid Social Insurance Number.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience
· Preference to post-secondary students
· Preferred experience working with persons with a chronic and persistent psychiatric illness
· Preferred training in social group work, recreation, life skills, and psychosocial rehabilitation
REQUIRED SKILLS (Knowledge and Skills)
· Excellent organizing and prioritizing skills
· Must be willing to work as part of a team and practice Team Approach
· Preference to those with First Aid/CPR and Food Safe.
· Preference to those with experience with Mental Health or a desire to enter the field.
· Empower others to grow and change
· Conviction that the individual has the capacity to grow and change

Ability to establish a respectful relationship with persons served to
help them gain skills and confidence
Shift/Schedule/Hours per week: 35 hours per week over a period of 8 weeks; for a total of 280 hours
Expected Start Date: ASAP
Wage/Salary: $20.25/hour
