American Transportation Services has an immediate opportunity for a Trailer Mechanic. We are looking for experienced Trailer Technicians who are looking for a stable work environment with more work than you'll know what to do with! This position will focus on meeting and maintaining our customers’ expectations as well as maintaining their equipment up to DOT standards. Technicians must maintain a modern fleet for a Fortune 500 package delivery company.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 2-5 yrs trailer mechanic experience. Experience in performing Trailer PMs and most common trailer repairs.
- Must be able to lift heavy equipment and parts.

- Must be able to work in a results-oriented, fast-paced environment as part of a team.
Responsibilities Include but not limited to:
- The Trailer Mechanic is responsible for timely repair and maintenance of heavy-duty fleet trailers to ensure a safe and efficient operation. The Trailer Mechanic position requires high level of proficiency and working knowledge related to tractors, trailers, dollies, and switchers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities.
- Perform repairs and preventative maintenance to tractors, trailers, dollies and switchers.
- Perform services to anti-lock brakes, wheel endcomponents, electrical, brakes, minor body work, and roll- up doors.
- Prepare trailer records and report both manually and on a computer.
- Perform safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation required.
- Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/ procedures.
- Inspect and perform work on the under parts of vehicles.
- Access any area of the equipment and to perform necessary maintenance.
- Move parts to and from the job site and remove or install these parts.
- Interact with clients through both email and phone as necessary.
- Perform other duties as required Key Competencies and Education.
- At least 2 years experience performing vehicle maintenance or must possess auto or diesel technology diploma from an accredited technical school
- ASE Certifications- preferred
- Must have valid Driver's License - Class C
- Proficient computer skills knowledge of Excel, Word, Fleet Management Systems, and Email.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (Documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, etc.)
- Must be able to operate a manual transmission vehicle to determine if operation properly.
- Must provide own hand tools and tool box. Working Conditions.
- Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job.
- Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, diesel fumes and noise.
- Exposure to chemicals, oils, greases, or other irritants.
- Ability to move and position heavy objects.
- Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl to repair vehicles.
- Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Must be able to complete the minimum of 8 hours of billable work DAILY. (enough work will be provided to make this task very achievable)
